Legs that get wider at the floor.
Most tables taper the other way — narrow at the bottom, so the piece looks light. This one doesn’t. The four legs splay out as they drop, planted, and the table reads braced rather than balanced. It’s the table you picture in a chow hall: solid, and built to be eaten at every day by people who aren’t being careful.
The top is solid hardwood with a clean edge and nothing underneath it to catch a knee.
Honest notes
- Because the legs splay, the end chairs sit slightly further out than they would at a straight-legged table.
- Give it two weeks before you’re rough with it. The oil finish takes fourteen days to cure — keep it dry and out of direct sun until then.
- Oak takes stain and we offer four finishes. Maple and walnut are finished natural, because they’re better that way.
- Solid wood moves. Seasonal change across the width is expected, not a fault.
- The large tops get a steel C-channel brace underneath. It adds real stiffness and it keeps a wide panel from cupping over the years — you won’t see it unless you look.
