The one with nothing on it.
No apron, no bevel, no chamfer, no curve. A flat top with a square edge, and four square legs set in from the corners so you can sit at a corner without straddling one. That is the entire table.
Because there is no apron hiding the joint, the top does the structural work, so it is built thicker than it looks and the boards are picked harder than on anything else we make. There is nowhere for a bad board to hide on this one.
Honest notes
- Plain is a commitment. In a busy room it disappears, which is sometimes the point and sometimes a disappointment. Decide which you want before you order.
- Nothing is hiding anything. Every knock and ring stays visible, and the table will look used within a year. Some people want exactly that.
- A square edge is a hard edge. If small children run past this table at head height, the Caprock or the Cove will treat them more kindly.
- No apron means no rail to bolt a leaf or a clamp to. It is one fixed size.
- Give it two weeks before you’re rough with it. The oil finish takes fourteen days to cure — keep it dry and out of direct sun until then.
- Oak takes stain and we offer four finishes. Maple and walnut are finished natural, because they’re better that way.
