People bought this to eat at and ended up working at it standing up.
That happened enough times that it’s worth leading with. Counter height, one wide slab leg at each end, and enough mass that it doesn’t move when you lean on it — which turns out to be the thing that matters if you’re standing at a desk all day.
A mesa is a flat top on steep sides. Two slab ends holding a plane is exactly that, and mesa is the Spanish word for table, which we didn’t plan but aren’t going to apologise for.
Honest notes
- A slab leg at each end means nothing in the middle — good for legroom, and it also means you can’t push a chair in at the ends.
- This is the heavy one. Two people to move it, and it isn’t a piece you’ll shift around the room on a whim.
- Counter height. If you want it at standing-desk height for your particular frame, tell us the measurement and we’ll build it there.
- Give it two weeks before you’re rough with it. The oil finish takes fourteen days to cure — keep it dry and out of direct sun until then.
- Oak takes stain and we offer four finishes. Maple and walnut are finished natural.
- The large tops get a steel C-channel brace underneath. It adds real stiffness and it keeps a wide panel from cupping over the years — you won’t see it unless you look.
