The console, laid down and stretched out.
Same two end frames, same low stretcher, dropped to coffee-table height and widened enough to take a tray, a stack of books and somebody’s feet.
Each end is a trapezoid — two uprights splaying outward to a foot on the floor, with the middle left open. A low stretcher runs between the two ends and ties the whole thing together. That is the Brazos: the weight sits at the ends and the middle is air.
Because the ends are open, it doesn’t block the floor the way a solid base does. A rug reads continuous underneath it, and a small room keeps its floor.
Honest notes
- The stretcher sits low and runs the full length. Feet find it, and most people decide they like that. It isn’t a footrest by design, but it copes.
- The frames are at the ends, so there is nothing to bark a shin on down the middle — and nothing to stop a robot vacuum either.
- It is a coffee table. Solid hardwood, it will take feet, but it is not a bench and not a step.
- Give it two weeks before you’re rough with it. The oil finish takes fourteen days to cure — keep it dry and out of direct sun until then.
- Oak takes stain and we offer four finishes. Maple and walnut are finished natural, because they’re better that way.
- Solid wood moves. Seasonal change is expected, not a fault.
